prep

this week and last week at school we have been doing prep! Prep is where you get into a small group and decide on what to make this year for prep me, ryah, caysey, madi, and adison are working together. We are making stickers and wall hangers. to make the stickers you need driftwood and old tops. We had to cut up the tops and tie them on the drift wood, then we tie dyed the ends of them. To make the stickers you need to print out some photos then cover some baking paper with tape then put the photos on it and cover it with tape then when you peel off the baking paper there is a sticky side to stick to whatever you want. today we have the market where we have to sell our stuff we have made for fake prep money.

Today we had Jake Bailey come into our school and give us a speech about his cancer if you dont know who Jake Bailey is you can search him up and find his book . You might like to read his book too. He came into our school and said a lot of stuff about his process of cancer and how he wasn't very scared at the start of his cancer but more grateful that they knew what was wrong with him!

Blog check

Today we reviewed our blogs. we looked at what we have been blogging about, what we have been creating and how many posts we have done. I have found out that I have a lot of literacy posts and not many maths posts. My goal for the rest of the term is to post more of my maths stuff. Also I would like to have 25 posts by the end of the term.

Hot water!

WALT: Explain a scientific phenomenon

Maori were first to discover Hanmer when they were walking the Pounamu
trail taking green stone to the East Coast from the West Coast, William Jones,
a farmer discovered the pools when he was walking and noticed a strange fog
coming from near the track.

The water in the thermal pools starts as snow and rain falling on the Hanmer
Springs mountains almost 180 years ago. When it hit the ground it
seeped down through fractured rock in the Hanmer Mountains to a depth
of about two kilometres below the Hanmer plains. It makes a reservoir and the
water gets heated by the earth's core.
This can all happen because New Zealand is right in the middle of the ring of
fire. That's why there's so much earthquakes and volcanoes, the ring of fire is
where the earth stitches together. The tectonic plates rub together creating friction
and heat which makes the water hot.

DId you know that the water in Hanmer is 180 years old!

So this is my understanding of how the geothermal water is hot.

Refection T3W5

This week for numeracy we have been working on fractions, I learnt how to identify fractions. Here is a google drawing about how to identify fractions . Next time I am going to try and be more focused so I will have a better understanding about fractions.


Also this week for literacy we have been still working on our slide about our artist. Next time I am going to find a bit more information about him, but this time I ran out of time. We were learning to resurrect about a set artist

This week for Literacy I did word work. I had really hard words this week and I Learnt how to spell them! I am most proud of learning how to spell catastrophe. Next time I am going to manage my time better so I don't have to do lots of work for home Learning.

This week we read a book called Harakeke. I liked this book, it was a really good story but it was quite long. Next time I am going to not talk to my friends so I don't have to do work at home. My WALT for this week was to write down all of the main ideas from the book Harakeke.  Harakeke is flax.

This week for literacy we had to make a poster about a book. The book I chose was Wonder. Next time I am going to manage my time better so I don't have to do heaps of home learning. My WALT for this week was Create a poster to persuade others to read a book. I liked doing this activity because I like doing google drawing.

This week for literacy we had to write down all that we know about plastic I didn't know much about plastic here is all I know. Next time I am going to try and think of more information.

Literacy Reflection T1W10

This Week for literacy I have been working on word work. Here is a video of me reading it out. I found some of the words hard like confess and employ because they were hard to spell. Next time I  am going to manage my time better so I can get more done so I don't have to do it for home learning.  

This week for writing I have been making a Coggle. Here is a video of mine. I sort of liked doing this activity. Next time I am going to chose a better topic for me because I didn't know much about it.

This week for word work I did the meaning of the word and a sentence. Next time I am going to write faster so I can get more done. I liked doing this because I really like doing word work.

Here is my favorite part of my writing
center for 2 nIn week 6 and 7 Mamaku traveled to the Buller region. We went to learn about mining. We stayed at the Maxwell Gage nights and 3 days. We did lots of bush walk and went swimming at the Aquatic center 2 times. We had bunk rooms to sleep in but I slept in the lounge.  
Here is my writing I didn't really like doing this activity I found it a bit boring. Next time I am going to not talk to my friends so  can make it better.

Literacy reflection T1W7

This week for literacy we had to write a introduction about shanty town here is mine we had to find out who when why and what and a fact about shanty town. this reminds me of when I went to shantytown. 


This week were also introduced to spine poems. We had to fine 6 books then make them into a poem. I really liked this activity it was very fun to do but it was hard to find all of the books.

This book is called the valley of the giant skeletons.

Geronino stilton and his family set out to find gold coins but they come along a thew bumps along the way. but the met up with this really nice family in the middle of the desert then they stay the night there find out more b  reading the book.

Geronimo Stilton was forced to go to Egypt he was told we was flying 1st class but he really wasent. Then when he got there bad things happend like when he was exploring the pyramids with a mad scintest the scientist passed out and Geronimo was left all alone. Then he saw a snake find out what happens next by reading the book.

I rate this book a 3 out of 5 because the book wasent as good as some of the other Geronimo Stilton books.

literacy Reflection Term 1 Week 5

This week for word work we had to write the definition of the word then write a sentence and find out the origin of the word. I didn't like doing this activity because it took along time to find the information. Next time I am going to write better sentences with my words by using FANBOYS to extend my ideas.

W2T1 Reflection

Literacy

This week for literacy we had to write lists that had something to do with us. I chose to do 10 places I want to visit. I found it hard to decide all the places I wanted to go. Next time I am going to manage my time better and try and get more done.

The number one place I want to go is I want to go to Orlando Florida so I can go snorkeling in a coral reef.

Statistics: This week we had to think of a question and then go and ask people in Mamaku. Our question was what is Mamaku's favorite animal and the answer was wolf. Here is my graph.

Interchange

This week for interchange we went to fitness where we did circuits and then we went to drama where we had to act out words. I liked drama better than fitness.

Literacy Reflection T4W8

This week we have been carrying on with our Christmas activities. I completed this. We had to make up a new poem like the twelve days of Christmas but kiwi style then make it into the shape of a Christmas tree. This is what I came up with. My WALT is to make sure my writing makes sense. Next time I am going to make it look a bit better.

This Week for Literacy we have been doing Christmas activity's. I completed 2 activity's this s one of them we had to write a text about why we should be on the good list. Next time I am going to make it look better

This is the other activity where we had to recreate the 12 days of Christmas poem with kiwi style. Then make it into a Christmas tree. Next time I am not going to put so much silly stuff. I liked this activity a lot
